Dear Son with a heart full of sorrow I will drop you a few lines to tell you of your dear brothers death. George is no more on this earth he was killed while breaking a block of logs in Bogue Chitto he said death struck him when the log struck him. They was one hour and a half getting him out. He lived about 5 hours, talked in his right mind until the last breather. Irban get to him about one hour and half before he died, his side and hip was crushed, his bowels was bursted all to pieces,he put Irban in charge of all of his property and his family, he said he was willing to die , that he made piece with God some time ago. Oh what a consolation left to us all left here, for him to say he was willing and said he was prepared. My dear child, it almost killed me when I heard of it for I was just getting up from a hard spell of sickness. I have had two spells lately but thank God I am up agian. My dear son this should be a warning to you us all and try to be prepared for we don't know when we will be called away. We ought to try to be prepared to meet George in heaven.I don't feel like I will be here much longer. William and Emiline both belong to the church. George was buried where Emilies little boy was buried, there was over a hundred people at the grave, give my love to all, tell Mildred I miss her greatly. I want to see you once more in life if it is Gods will. William is going to building my last house on my homestead and poorly able but if you and Mildred has a little spare it will be gladly received by your old mother. Tell Minnie the same from grandma, write to me as soon as you get this and let me hear from you all. I will close this by saying God bless you and all My dear son is the prayer of your effectionate mother
