Notes for Joel Sugg:
Notes copied from the book "From a Sow to a Sparrow-The History of the Sugg Family" by Dorris D. Hendrickson and Paul Hisaw:
" While in Wake County, in Wake County, Mark Sugg was shown with 235 acres after he sold 54 acres to his brother Joel, on January 13, 1816. He had evidently sold the remainder of his 235 acres to Joel about the time he moved away from Wake County, although no record of such a transaction has been found. In 1816, Joel Sugg had 244 acres, while the following year he had 479, and increase of exactly 235 acres.
Mark Sugg did sell 50 acres to Joel in 1817, but he was listed as a resident of Chatham County, North Carolina.
William and Betty Sugg, with Betty making her mark, witnessed the Deed between their two sons in January 1816.Davis Holleman, Mark and Joel's brother-in-law, witnessed the 1817 deed between the brothers.William Sugg witnessed the March 7, 1818 deed along with Wiley Holland who made his mark."
"........From Mark Sugg fathers Will (WB 19, pg. 525) in Wake County, North Carolina it only refers to Mark Sugg in Item Eight which tells us "...having given to my sons Joel and Mark Suggs all that I allowed them I shall say no more about them...".With this we can assume that Mark Sugg received 200 or more acres of land since his brother Joel Sugg said in his Will (WB 14, pg. 252) in May 1818 that he received 245 acres of land from his father, and bought 54 acres from Mark Sugg.
On the 13 January 1816 Mark Sugg sold to Joel Sugg (DB 1, pg. 161) 54 acres for the sum of forty three dollars and twenty cents. This property was lying and being in the County of Wake and on the water of Beaver Creek, which joined the lines of Able Olive and Davis Holleman.Witnessed by his parents William and Betsy Sugg at which time it was recorded in February Term 1817 and registered in the Registrars Office of Wake County on 2 May 1817.
A second land transaction with Joel Sugg was on the 13 January 1817 (DB 1, pg. 0163) where Mark Sugg sold to Joel Sugg 50 acres for the sum of sixty-two and one-half dollars.
This land being and lying in Wake County on the water of White Oak along the lines of Jacob Hill, Blanton Cooks and Robert Brown. This deed was witnessed by Davis Holleman and recorded in February Term 1817 and registered in the Registers Office of Wake County on 2 May 1817."
