Bull Gap, Tennessee
April 13, 1865
Dear Brother and Sister-in-law and Niece,
I answer your letter dated Mar. 26 that I just received this evening, which gave me great pleasure to learn that you are enjoying good health and the rest of our relatives. For me, I enjoy good health. I hope that the present letter will find you the same at it's arrival. Dear brother, we have left Huntsville, Alabama the 25th of March to come here, the eastern part of Tennessee. There is almost 300 miles to Huntsville. I cannot tell you how long we will remain here. All the country that I saw around here are mountainous. I saw great mountains. I saw some 700 ft. high and saw one 1500 ft. high. There is some forts on the summit.Dear I just received a letter from my wife dated the 21st of March. She tells me that she has not received any news from France nor from you. It seems a letter is lost in some place. I told her if she received any news to send to me as soon as she receives it. I wish very much that you would give me some news in your first letter. I like it very much as a soldier now that is all I have to sayfor present, except that you give my compliments to the relations. Receive the salutations the most sincere on the part of your brother J. P. Parrot.
Dear Sister-in-law,
I think your work goes better this time than the time before. I hope it will be a boy that you will have. I wish you good and courage at the birth of the child.
Dear Brother,
Kiss my nieces for me. My wife gave you good many compliments. She is in good health as well as my two boys.
