* The Burke County, NC Carswells'*

Updated March 19, 2002

Genealogy research is a lot of work. For me it is a labor of love. For some reason I just have a driving desire to put the pieces of the puzzle together. I have discovered information that I would never have imagined if I had not discovered my love for Genealogy.

I have many miles to go yet but, so far with the data I have collected, I can say that the Burke County Carswell's have been here since the Revolutionary War. John Carswell shows up in that era in land and other records. Many Burke County Carswells'
served in the War between the States.

I have a suspicion that at least some of our Carswells may have immigrated to Charlestown, and had a land grant to settle in Burke County, Ga. I also have a strong suspicion that James Robert Carswell was a son of Alexander Carswell and Isabella Brown from Burke County Georgia. I would love to go there one of these days and do some research.

One of my burning questions is about one of the husbands who married Jincey (Jane) Carswell, (Zachariah Downs). I can't find information about when he died or where he is buried.

Any information on this family would be appreciated and I would be glad to share the information that I have.
