FAMILY STORY:
This story was first told to me by my mother Jaunita and later by her brother Horace. They were told this by their mother Virgie.
When virgie and her siblings were growing up they lived at Double Wells community. Their house was heated with a wood stove. Their dad (PaPa) Pete Pierce had the habit of coming in during cold weather and throwing his hat down on the floor next to the wood stove. It would remain there until he started to leave the house again, at which time he would grab it and place it on his head.
The family had several young cats that hung around and tried to sleep inside in cold weather.
PaPa got up early one morning before everyone else, as was his custom. He got dressed and as he started out the door he grabbed his hat and placed it on his head.
Those still in bed heard a lot of commotion going on in the house. PaPa was gathering up the cats one by one and banging their heads to kill them. He still had his hat on and the cat "mess" was running down the sides of his face and head. The cats had "messed" in his hat during the night.
