Place of worship for Smith Family near Clarksburg, WV - Descendants of my 5th Great Aunt, Ann Abigail Parke and her husband, James Smith (Great Nephew to my 7th Great Grandmother, Sarah Smith from Hopewell, NJ). Sarah was born in Farsley, West Riding, Yorkshire Co., England on 28 Nov 1675 to Pioneer Andrew Smith I (Born 1640 in Farsley, England) and Sarah Foster. Her husband, my 7th Great Grandfather, was John Parke I, born 1674 in Northumberland Co., England. James Smith and Ann Parke's son, Aaron Smith, was a Revolutionary War Hero who served as an Electoral College member and helped to vote President George Washington into Office. Aaron was in possession of a Tomahawk Land Grant for 400 acres in the Simpson Creek area. Ann Parke is the sister, to my 4-state Pioneer 5th Great Grandfather, Ebenezer Park (1747-1839) who died in Madison County, KY. Ebenezer's wife, Tabitha Mills, preceded him in death in 1826. Eb and Tabitha's graves were found by my father and I after an extensive 2-year search on 30 June 2000 in the woods along Drowning Creek in Eastern Madison County! The present Smith Chapel was built on the foundation of the previous church by Charles Ashby Short in 1905-06. The Sunday School rooms to the left and the basement were added in the 1960s, when the foundation stones began deteriorating.
This photo was taken on 21 June 2000, by my parents, William H. Park II (1930- ) and Frances T. Bell-Park (1932- ).
