Look closely, here is a page from young, George Washington's survey book from Frederick County, VA in 1752 for two land tracts at 200 acres each for John Parke I (My 7th Great Grandfather). This land is located along the Capon River in Capon Bridge, WV (Hampshire County, WV). On the northern end of this tract lies what is left of John's family burial site, having been overrun by cattle on what today is a tennant farm owned by Burzie Baker. John and his wife, Sarah Smith, came to Jersey Mountain and then Capon Bridge in 1735 from Hopewell, NJ where his father (my 8th Great Grandfather), Roger Parke, Sr. migrated from Cumberland Coounty, England in 1682 with his wife, Ann Pattison. The referral to "Roger's Road" in Washington's survey entry probably belonged to Roger Parke, Jr., son of John I who lived on this same land tract. I am in possession of a copy of Roger Parke, Jr.'s last will and testament from the early 1770s in what was then Hampshire County in the Colony of Virginia as it is refered to in Roger's will. I found this picture of Washington's survey in his archives online at the Library of Congress. Washington is reportedly to have surveyed this land for John and Sarah in return for their support in building an area road there--possibly the one refered to as "Roger's Rd." in his survey book.
