Home to my 2nd Great Grandparents, John McMonigle Park (1827-1901) and Martha Cobb (1835-1911),in Irvine, KY (Estill Co.). They were the parents of William Henry Park I (My Dad's Grandfather), Walter Francis Park, & Sallie (Quinn). Family history has it that John hid burlap sacks of corn in the house ceiling rafters and their horses in the woods nearby, as Civil War soldiers made it a habit of stopping by and taking both. One day, Martha Cobb heard the ceiling creaking over her daughter Sallie's crib and quickly picked up the baby and left the room. Moments later the ceiling came crashing down and crushed the now empty crib! True story passed down told to Sallie's Granddaughter and my cousin, Wilda Quinn-Cooper of Taylorsville, IL, now 81 years old. Martha Cobb can be seen in dark dress sitting in front of the house with daughter, Sallie (in white dress), standing beside her. I believe gentleman on right side of the house is one of the slaves. This picture was graciously donated by Wilda. By the way, if you believe in the paranormal, my oldest son, Brandon, saw John McMonigle Park's ghost on 7 Dec 2000 (John's 173rd birthday) in our home in Fayetteville, NC....read about this paranormal experience, also on this page.
