The Paschen and Brandt families came to White County, Indiana; William Paschen in 1882 and John Brandt in 1874. Both families came from near Hagenow, in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany.

Generations of Brandts lived in the village of Dammereez (then called Damretz) in Vellahn Parish and were Lutherans. The Paschens were from the nearby villages of Ruhethal in Vellahn Parish and Setzin, in Pritzier Parish. The information in the family tree included on this page has come from my research in the Church Registers of Vellahn and Pritzier Parishes.

In this country the Brandts remained in White County, farming near Monticello. William Paschen died within a few months of arriving in White County. His widow remarried, to John Colbo, Sr., and moved to Pulaski County, west of Francesville, where she raised the three children who had come over from Germany with her. Son Henry, my ancestor, later farmed and raised his family near Metea in Cass County, Indiana. Son William farmed near Monticello in White County, and daughter Emma Married John Colbo, Jr and remained in the Francesville, Pulaski County area.

I have just published a book ("The Paschen and Redd Families of Cass County, Indiana") detailing the ancestry of Henry Paschen and Bertha Doll (Dolge) back several generations in Germany. It includes many original records and pictures (Paschen, Doll, Brandt, Saltwell/Soltwedel families), as well as the descendants of Henry and Bertha Paschen to the present time. The book also includes the ancestry of Joseph Redd and Dolly Livingston. (McCarty, Horney, Marsh, Wasson and Shigley families) Details are available by e-mail or US mail at the address shown on the left.
