Notes for J. Lewis Paul: J. Lewis Paul was believed to have come from a rich family in Holland. He settled in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Apparently, he and his brother William got into some kind of trouble and left for Clearfield County, changing their name to Powell briefly.

J. Lewis was a shoemaker. He was in the War of 1812. He served as a Pvt. in Captain Philip Fetterhoffs Co., 2 Regiment Pa Militia. The records list him as Lewis Powl.
A few years ago, I [Virginia] found this notice in Early American Life:
"Parental information and location of Shanock Valley, in reference to SARAH ANN ORINDIWER (ORINDORFER) born January 24, 1832, died January 13, 1926. Married SOLOMON SHAFFER October 16, 1857 and was adopted by J.L. and Elizabeth Paul."
The marriage of this Sarah and Solomon took place in Clinton Co., Lock Haven area.
