POWER OF ATTORNEY LINKING WILLIAM CRISP, SR. OF EDGECOMBE COUNTY,
NORTH CAROLINA TO CRISPS IN SOUTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA
Know all men by these present, that I, Alexander Crisp, of the
County of Cherokee and State of North Carolina, have this day
nominated, constituted and appointed Johnson W. King, my true and
lawful Attorney, in fact to attend to the collection for me, all sum
or sums that may be due or is due me from the estate of my Grand
Father, Wm. Crisp, Sr., dec,d., who resided at the time of his death in
Edgecomb county in this State of which my Father, Bray Crisp, was his
son and legal heir to said estate who had long since dec,d., and I in
connection with Wm. Crisp, jr., Elizabeth Crisp and Isaac Crisp, his
lawful children, are justly entitled to all sum or sums that is or may
be due the said Bray Crisp, dec,d., from said estate; now I do therefore,
for myself, constitute and empower the said King to go unto
Edgecomb county in this State and attend to the collection of said
claim or whatever part may be due me from said estate, giving him
complete as far as in me lies to manage the whole business for me and
in my name as he may think advisable. I also authorize him to commence
suit, should he think it necessary for the recovery of all such claim
or sums that my be due me from said estate, also authorize him to make
a full and final settlement with the administrators or executors of
said estate and to receive from them all sums that is or may be due me
and sign my name to all necessary receipts and acquittances for the
same and to act and do in the whole matter as he may think advisable
and I do hereby ratify and confirm all his acts that he may lawfully do
in the premises and declare them to be as finding on me as if I had been
personally present and done the same with my own hand, in testimony
whereof I, Alexander Crisp, grand son of Wm. Crisp;, dec,d., and son of
Bray Crisp, dec,d., have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal, this
the 8 day of December, 1840.
