General Businessman.He started as a 'Breaker-Boy' in the local collieries.Dynamic Individual: He founded several general stores in McAdoo, Tamaqua, and Pottsville, PA;He ran the steamship ticket agency and shipping office for the Cunard Lines; Was instrumental in founding what later became the 1st National Bank in McAdoo, and aided in the establishment of several McAdoo, PA, Roman Catholic churches; Managed the local insurance agencies for the Springfield, (later Hartford & Equitable)Fire and Marine Insurance Companies; Served as Justice of the Peace and Notary Public in McAdoo. Staunch Democrat. He spoke, read and wrote at least five languages; Sometimes he communicated with the local priests in Latin.The father of eight children (who lived);Two died in infancy.Was an amateur, but good violinist;Died in1924, age 57, of pneumonia as a result of an abdominal operation.
