8.Adam H.3 Schares (Barbara2 Heinen, Adam1) was born October 15, 1855 in Prussia, and died February 10, 1930 in Gilbertville, Black Hawk Co., IA.He married Mary Kascht, daughter of William Kascht and Margaret Hustedt.She was born April 23, 1859 in Chicago, IL, and died February 25, 1941 in Waterloo, IA.

Adam H. Schares, who has lived in Black Hawk County for about a half century, and has successfully followed general agricultural pursuits throughout his entire business career, now owns two hundred and eighty-one acres of valuable land, one hundred and twenty-four acres of which comprises his home farm on section 6, Spring Creek township, and is one of the best improved properties in the county.His birth occurred in Prussia on the 15th of October, 1855, his parents being William and Barbara (Heinen) Schares, who were like-wise natives of that country.In 1865, they emigrated to the United States and located first in Illinois but at the end of two months came to Black Hawk county, IA.Here the father purchased and improved eighty acres of land in Fox township, which he cultivated successfully throughout the remainder of his life.His demise occurred in May, 1888, while his wife survived until July, 1906, when she, too, was called to her final rest.
Adam H. Schares, who was a lad of ten years when he accompanied his parent on their emigration to the new world, had begun his education in the schools of his native country and continued his studies in the district schools of Black Hawk County.He remained at home until twenty-four years of age and then started out as an agriculturist on his own account, cultivating a tract of rented land for two years.On the expiration of that period, he purchased forty acres in Spring Creek Township and began improvement of the property.As time passed and his financial resources increased, owning to his untiring industry and capable management, he augmented his holdings by additional purchase until he now owns two hundred and eighty-one acres thereof lie in his home place on section 6, Spring Creek township, while the remainder is in Fox and Poyner Townships.He cultivates the cereals best adapted to soil and climate and also raises shorthorn Durham cattle and Duroc-Jersey hogs, meeting with gratifying success in both branches of his business.For the last sixteen years he has been a stockholder and director in the Farmers Creamery Company of Gilbertville and he is likewise a stockholder in the German Savings Bank of Gilbertville.
On the 15th day of October, 1879, Mr. Schares was joined in wedlock to Miss Mary Kascht, a native of Chicago, Illinois, and a daughter of William and Margaret (Hustedt) Kascht, who were born in Prussia and came to America at an early day.The father was a tailor by trade and after reaching American shores made his way first to Chicago.Subsequently, however, he removed to Lemont, Illinois, where he purchased a small farm and was engaged in agricultural pursuits until 1867, when he came to Black Hawk County, IA.Here he bought ninety acres of land in Fox township, which he cultivated successfully throughout the remainder of his active business career.His last days were spent in honorable retirement at Gilbertville, where he passed away in 1893, while his wife was called to her final rest in 1899.To Mr. and Mrs. Schares have been born nine children, namely: William; Anna; Matilda; Mary; John; Margaret; Clara; Herbert; and Ida, who died in 1904.
Mr. Schares gives his political allegiance to the democracy and is now ably serving in the capacity of trustee, having held that position for eleven years.His religious faith is that of the Catholic church.In his business dealings he has ever been straightforward and reliable, enjoying the confidence of those with whom he has been associated, and as a worthy and representative citizen of Black Hawk County he fully deserves the substantial prosperity which is his today.

ADAM SCHARES
Adam Schares, 74, pioneer resident of Gilbertville, IA, died at his home at 9:30 Monday.Death was attributed to bladder trouble and complications.He had been ill about three months.
Adam Schares was born on 10-15-1856 (?), in Prussia, Germany..He moved to America in 1865 (?) and settled near Gilbertville, where he had lived nearly all his life.
The deceased was the father of Mrs. Phillip Friedl, 302 Commercial St., and was widely known in Waterloo.
The body was taken to the Hileman and Gindt Mortuary.

Requiem Mass for Adam Schares, 74, Gilbertville, who died Monday morning will be celebrated at the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception at Gilbertville at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.Rev. Fr. J. W. Cremer will officiate.Burial will be in the cemetery there.
Adam H. Schares, a native of Germany, came to Black Hawk Co., with his parents when he was a boy of twelve.They settled near Gilbertville, and he became a widely known farmer and stock raiser.He was born 10-15-1855.
He was married to Miss Mary Kascht of Lamont, IL, and last October, celebrated both his 74th birthday and his Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Mr. Schares spent 36 years of his life on a farm in Spring Creek Township, and moved to Gilbertville in 1915.
Surviving besides the widow, are five daughters: Mrs. Philip Friedl, 302 Commercial St., Mrs. E. F. Muirehil, 132 Harrison St., Mrs. Peter Winninger, 318 Iowa ST., Mrs. J. P. Nemmers, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Sister M. Camilla, Madison, Minn.; and three sons: William and John, on a farm near Gilbertville, and Herbert, Gilbertville.One daughter, Ida, died in 1904.
Two brothers, William and Jacob Schares, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Federspiel, living in Gilbertville, and a second sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hermann, residing in Mitchell, South Dakota, also survive.

MRS MARY SCHARES, 81, DIES FOLLOWING LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Mary Schares, former Gilbertville resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter C. Winninger in Waterloo at 4 p.m. Tuesday following a stroke and complications, incident to advanced age.She had been bedfast for 10 months.
Mary Kascht, daughter of William and Margaret Kascht, was born in Cook Co., IL, April 23, 1859.At the age of 10, with her parents she came to a farm east of Gilbertville.
On Oct. 15, 1879, she married Adam Schares who died 11 years ago.They lived on a farm in Spring Creek township 35 years, when they retired and moved to Gilbertville.Four years ago, Mrs. Schares sold her home in Gilbertville and moved to the residence of her daughter, Mrs. E. F. Mulvehill in Waterloo.for the past 10 months, she has lived with Mrs. Winninger.
Surviving are eight children--William and John, La Porte City; Herbert, Jesup; Mrs. J. P. Nemmers, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Sister Mary Camilla, St. Donatus, IA.; Mrs. E. F. Mulvehill, Mrs. Philip Friedl, and Mrs. Peter Winninger, Waterloo.she also leaves 48 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.A daughter, Ida, preceded her in death at the age of 8 years and four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Mary's Church at 9 a.m. Friday with Fr. Roman Schares, Ossian, IA, a nephew of Mrs. Schares, as celebrant of the mass, and Fr. William Cremer, of Gilbertville, and Fr. Clarence Piontkowski, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Waterloo, as deacon and sub-deacon, respectively.Burial will be in Gilbertville.
