I am researching my PAYNE ancestors as well as related folks to include: FRAZIER, MANES, MANESS, McCORD and COFFMAN. The States, Counties and Dates most interested in are:

Virginia --Bedford, Franklin, Halifax ----Pre-1800
Tennessee--Greene, Hawkins, Sullivan-----1800-1840
Georgia----Walker & adjacent in NW GA----1840-1870
Arkansas---Scott, Logan, Yell & Boone----1870-Present
Kansas-----Chautauqua, Montgomery & adj.-1870-Present
Oklahoma---All Counties --1900-Present

The oldest folks, which have been proven, are William PAYNE b. 1780-VA and his wife Sarah MANES b. 1787-VA, according to the 1850 Census, Walker County, GA. And, War of 1812 affidavits for both William and Sarah PAYNE show they were married April 24, 1804 in Hawkins County, TN. The 1820 & 1830 Censuses of Greene County, TN show the families present as well as do marriage records and Deed records, However, most left about 1839 and travelled to NW GA.

There have been many PAYNE lines researched and identified by other genealogists. To date I have never found any solid connections to any of these lines. Male DNA tests show a related line in NE GA and SW SC, but no common ancester yet found. Sometimes I think we might just have been "hatched on fence posts"!!

If you have any clues or can provide some leads please contact me at the included addresses. For more details of names, dates and places please check the attached Tree. Good hunting and may you find few skeletons in your closet.
