Jess worked at the roundhouse in Cotter over 5 years after the war. He then moved to Wichita to work at Christopher Iron Works for over 32 years as a welder. He had a stroke and they returned to Calico Rock, Ark. He played the french harp & guitar. He was inducted in the army at age 24. He was a Rifleman, served in the Asiatic Pacific, Guadalcanal and Fiji Islands.
