Thomas Hessey was of English ancestry and a proment landowner in Virginia. Their daughter Margaret(Hessey)Fouke died in 1845 and Robert P. Fouke left his daughter F. Valian Fouke with the Hessey Family in 1848, while he headed to Illinois. In 1849 Robert Phillip Fouke became a 49'er and headed to California.
