Shortly after his marriage to Eliza Springer Maclin, William Francis Brodnax bought 312 acres of land from Mr. Branden.He improved and added to the log house on the property.Through the years he added more land to his property.The entire W. F. Brodnax estate is still in the hands of his descendants, members of the Seayfamily.
Lucy Lyne died at nine months and was buried in the little family graveyard not far from the house.Five years later, her father died on his fortieth birthday, January 2, 1877, after a short and sudden attack of pneumonia.His wife died two years later, at age 34 leaving four young children.
The two boys went to live with their Grandmother Brodnax and the two girls were reared by their mother's sister, Lucy Taylor Maclin, at the time a girl of nineteen.
