James Jones was the son of a Miss Marbury, daughter of Leonard Marbury (probably Emily as the name Emily Marbury is carried forward with Judge Law's chioldren) and the granddaughter of Francis Marbury of Maryland whose Will was probated January 1, 1734.
James Jones was a planter, having a large plantation in Bryan County called Belvidere.He was also a lawyer and very prominent in business, politics and civil life, being closely associated with such men as John and George Millen, John Millege, John Eppinger, Ebenezer Stark, Jacob Waldburger and Col. Horatio and Leonard Marbury, who were closely related to him.He was a representative to the legislature of Georgia from 1790 to 1797 and was Federal representative to Congress from Chatham and Bryan Counties.He died in Washington, D.C., January 19, 1801, at the age of 31.His Will is on record in chatham County and in the advertisement for the sale of his Estate, nine tracts of land totaling 1,400 acres in Bryan County are listed.
