Frederick was justice out the peace in Brunswick County, Virginia; county lieutenant; member of the House of Burgesses, 1767-69; member of the Virginia Convention of May, 1775 held in Williamsburg; and vestryman of St. Andrew's Parish.His Will was probated in Brunswick County December 26, 1808.Executors were sons-in-law, John Hardaway and Joseph Saunders.
John Taylor Lewis of Richmond, Virginia, a descendant Frederick (through granddaughter Lucy), says Colonel Frederick Maclin was an aide on the staff of General George Washington, through which service in the immediate command of General Washington, Colonel Lewis states he is eligible to membership in the Society of the Cincinnati.
