Notes for William Maclin:
William Maclin, with his brother John Maclin, came from Paisley, Scotland to Virginia early in the Eighteenth Century.John Maclin died in 1740 in Brunswick County, Virginia and it is thought that his children moved to Pennsylvania and thence to various southern states.There is record that William owned land in James City County in 1704.
Williams settled in Surry County, Virginiain 1723 and died in Brunswick County, Virginia in 1751 or 1752.He received a grant of 100 acres in 1726 when Brunswick was part of Isle of Wight.He had 300 acres in Surry County and, in 1736, large grants in Brunswick County.With the later division of Brunswick County, these lands were in Dinwiddie, Greensville and Mecklenburg Counties.In Brunswick County, William was justice of the peace, sheriff (1733-1739), surveyor 1733, Captain of Foot 1751 and a vestryman of St. Andrews for many years.
