My research began with my grandfather Jonathan James Camp, Jr. known to his family and friends as John or J.N. He was born in Minden, Webster Parish Louisiana in 1868. He was married three times and had 22 children. His first wife was Catherine Barrington of Minden, La. They were married for 26 years and had 11 children. Catherine died in 1912 at the age of 43. John married Florance Fuller between 1913-1915 and they had a daughter. They were divorced before 1920. John moved to Leake County, Mississippi where he met and married my grandmother Lucy Leona McKay in 1922. He bought a farm in Renfroe, Ms., drained the lowland for farming and built a house. There he and Leona raised 10 children together. Their second child was my father, Elix P. Camp. My research and this home page are dedicated to the memory of my father and to his family. I love you Daddy! |
