My brother, Elmer Benjamin Peck was researching the Meier/Meyer family with just paper and pencil. When he passed away in 1981, his paper notes were passed on to me. That got me interested since I had retired in 1979. I began with just relatives on my mothers side of the family. Her grandfather, Herman Meier was married to Louisa Niemann, dau of Casper and Eliza Hanrath Niemann. Herman and his brothers, Henry Caspar, John Frederick, Karl Heinrich and George Heinrich Meier came to Cass County Illinois between 1840 - 1870. They had lots of children, grandchildren, etc. It appeared as if the entire county was related by either blood or marriage. I finally decided to do the entire county of Cass and now have a database of over 118,000 individuals.
Am always glad to add new and corrective information. My ancestors were: MEIER, NIEMANN, ROCHE, MUHLERT, WINHOLD, WEBER, PECK, HUFFMAN, EASTON, MILLER..
My nephew, Greg Croxton - whose Grandmother Croxton and his mother were both Peck's, is very active in the Schuyler Jail Museum and Genealogical Center. He provides me with CD-ROM's of all obituaries in the Schuyler Newspapers. He also has hundreds of pictures of tombstones in the Schuyler Area (as I have from the Cass County cemeteries).
