Thomas John Purdie (son of James Graham Purdie and Margaret M.Taylor) was born June 12, 1897 in Hamildean Farm, Peebleshire, Scotland, and died June 18, 1980 in Freshford, Avon, England. He married Frances Ellen Walsh on 1919 in Black Heath, London.

Thomas Purdie was the only son of James G. and Margaret Purdie. He spent his early life on the farm of Hamildean. This is in the area of Eddleston and Stobo in Peebleshire Scotland. He attended boarding school at Fettes in Edinbugh, and graduated from the officers training program in to the Gordon Highlanders. He served with them during the war of 1914-1918. He met and married Frances Ellen Walsh, who was a nurse with the Queen Alexanders Imperial Military Nursing Service, after the war. They emigrated to Canada. Thomas worked as a farmer in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and laterly with the Federal Government Experimental Farm at Aggasiz, British Columbia. Three months after his daughter Margaret Isles was born he returned to Scotland at the request of his family. After a couple of years at the farm of Lochend Edinburgh, which was then owned by the family, he moved to the farm of Hallydown in Coldingham, Berwickshire which was purchased for him by the family. Later the ajoining farm of Allemill was also added. Thomas and Frances divorced in 1931. He married Bella folowing a period of illness. Following the death of his mother in 194- he sold both farms and retired to Bournemouth in the south of England. Bella died and he later married Muriel Johnson, who had a daughter Elizabeth. They settled in a house at Freshford, Avon, England. It was here that Thomas died at home in his sleep at the fireside.
