My research has become a family affair of the 21 grandchildren of Jacob Alois Moritz BUOL and Maria Catherine HAMMERLI. August 8, 2004, 15 first cousins had a reunion in Juda, Rock County, Wisconsin. This was the first time so many of us were together at one time. Our births span 1927 to 1952. Both the BUOLs and HAMMERLYs originated in Switzerland and upon immigrating settled in Dane and Green Counties, Wisconsin. Jacob came in 1892. Maria's parents came in 1880. We are gathering pictures and family stories to publish in a book which will be printed in April 2005. My father's family, the TOLTZIENs originated in Germany, immigrating first to Kansas, then Nebraska, then Wisconsin. Hugo TOLTZIEN married Elizabeth Ada PAYNE in Wisconsin in 1911. He was the son of Karl TOLTZIEN and Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph Marian PAYNE and Mae Elizabeth FOUST. Joseph's father, Jonathan, fought in the Civil War in the Wisconsin Volunteers. Jonathan had migrated to Wisconsin with his wife, Dinah COLEMAN from Ohio in the 1850s. They settled in Crawford County. The PEELERs also originated in Germany, however, immigrating much earlier than the TOLTZIENs, coming in 1727. They landed at Philadelphia, staying in Pennsylvania a generation and then slowly moving into North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and then West Texas where my husband's grandfather grew some of the first cotton about 1902. I believe we are part of the land as well as the people of our past. So, geographic and economic information are important to me. I hope you will share your information on any of these families and use my information where it is useful to you. |
