| Louis Robicheau was born in LaSouche, France in 1609. He left the port of d'Auray aboard the frigate l'Esperance en Dieu, on July 4, 1632. He took it upon himself to find young couples, if possibly newlyweds, courageous, or even less fortunate couples with a strong desire to start a new life in a new land without wanting to return to France. He came to Port Royal with his wife. Once there he was given a grant of land and started to farm it, although he did not live long enough to see the fruits of his labor. On January 3, 1649 at the age of 40 he suddenly died at l'Hotel Dieu, in Quebec. He was buried on January 4, 1649 in a cemetery within Quebec. The name Robicheau is found in Charles d'Aulnay's records at the parish registers of La Chausee.LaChausee is a small village in a southern direction from the city of Loudun, which is located in the department of LaVienne, in the province of Poitou. (France) Louis was believed to be the first Robicheau, Robichaud, Robicheaux to have set foot on the North American Continent. Jim Pellegrin, |
