OBITUARY -- EUGENE J. LEGASSEY;
LIMESTONE -- Eugene J. Legassey, 83, beloved husband of the late June (Kenneson) Legassey, died unexpectedly, April 17, 1994, at his Limestone residence. He was born at Limestone, March 30, 1911, the son of Frederick and Idella (Rossignol) Legassey. A lifelong Limestone resident, he worked for more than 20 years at Loring Air Force Base in the maintenance department. He was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Parish, Limestone. An avid sportsman he was one of the oldest active trappers in the United States, trapping every season since he was 14 years old. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Trappers, the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine; and was a well-known fisherman and fly tier. He enjoyed harness racing.
He is survived by two sons, Eugene Legassey Jr. of Island Falls, Peter Legassey of South Windsor, Conn.; one daughter, Mrs. Warren (Babe) Stanlia Bellefleur of Orrington; three grandsons, Mitchell Bellefleur of Manchester, Conn., Pvt. Eugene "Snapper" Legassey III of Camp Geiger, N.C., Ryan Legassey of South Windsor, Conn.; one granddaughter, Lori Soohey of Bangor; three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by a special friend, Laura Montgomery of Limestone.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Tuesday at the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone, with Fr. Joel Cyr, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Avent Cemetery, Limestone.
