* The Pembertons of Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Middlesex, Englan*

Updated September 28, 2007

The Pemberton family consist of Charles Sydney Pemberton, his wife Ada Una Pemberton, nee Bowler, who came to Canada from the area of London,England. The family left England in 1907 aboard the Southwerk, bound for the city of Quebec, Canada; and consisted of Sydney, Edward George, Christopher Arthur, Cordilia Madelaine, and Frank Cecil. The birthplace of the Pemberton's was in the area of London, England: Finchley, Edmonton, Islington. The grandfather, Henry Pemberton was born in Royston/Roystone, Hertfordshire. I am still trying to locate information on Henry Pemberton. There was a Alice Pemberton, sister of Charles S. Pemberton. I have not info' on Alice. Most members of the family were Bricklayers in England. The family was split up on 1907; Sydney, Edward(Ted),and father Charles worked on the railroads in the north St. Clair district area of Toronto. During these years there has been no research on where the other members of the family lived. The 3 men moved to different areas of the city, esp. downtown Toronto. In 1912 they are all registered in the Toronto Directory as living at Street, in the Bloor/Palmerston district. There were other Pemberton's living in this house during the years they lived there; in 1913 they moved to 61 Columbine Avenue in the Beach area of Toronto (east). The family went to school in the district, while the older children worked. Then eventually they moved out on their own and got married. Ada Una Bowler Pemberton moved to 63 Columbine Ave. She attended St. John's Norway Anglican Church, and is buried there. The church is located at the corner of Kingston Road and Woodbine; Columbine is just south of this, on the west side of Woodbine Ave. Joyce Pemberton Barker is also buried in this church.
