The Penman's of Wigan England

Updated February 15, 2009

Welcome any and all with an interest in the surname Penman. I have traced this branch of my tree to my gggggrandfather, George Penman, born in 1795 in Ireland.

He and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to Wigan, England and he gave up being a street hawker to work in the weaving mills.

From Wigan, the descendants moved to Durham and Penshaw. In 1911, my grandfather, Michael Patrick Penman, emigrated to Gloucester, Ohio and then settled his family in the coal mining town of Bicknell, Indiana.

My father, Vincent, then carried the family name to Detroit, Michigan to work in the automotive industry in the 1930's.

I would love to hear from anyone related and especially anyone who could offer help in doing Irish research before 1795!
