I am researching the background of five generations of James Penningtons. Joshua Pennington is the sixth generation back. He was born in Indiana in 1831 but I don't know which town. His wife was Ana M. Black, born Feb. 25, 1838 in Pennsylvania according to a family Bible and census records. Their parents remain a mystery. The Penningtons eventually were in northwest Oklahoma.
I am also researching Lucy Brown Laird's family. She was born in 1867 in Hart Co., KY. Her father Thomas G. Laird was in the Union Army with that spelling for Laird. Military records also show him in the Mexican War as Thomas Lard. The Lard family is in census records back to 1790 in Kentucky but I don't know for sure where they came from. Thomas's wife was Elizabeth C. Taylor, born in 1840 in Munfordville, KY. She died in 1917 in Arma, Kansas.
Swedish relatives on my side of the family include Erikssons from Storon, Sweden and Janssons from Aland Islands, Finland. I have just begun this research and any suggestions would be appreciated.
I live in Jefferson Co., Illinois. Perhaps I could field a question or give a reccomendation for this area.
