John Frederick Duncan (son of Thomas Duncan and Mary) was born September 09, 1848 in Sidney, OH, and died March 15, 1936 in BLOOMINGTON TOWNSHIP, MUSCATINE COUNTY, IOWA. He married (1) Sarah A. Fergus on March 1872. He married (2) Sophie May Arnold on October 30, 1904, daughter of Thomas Arnold and Elizebeth.
Notes for John Frederick Duncan: John and Mary, his first wife, had 10 children. They moved from their native Ohio to Madison county, Nebraska in 1883 and John followed this trade of carpenter and builder until the spring of 1894 when he and his family moved to Missouri and located on a farm four miles south of Nevada. The next fall he purchased a farm five miles southeast of Montevallo and moved his family there. He cleared the timber on the farm and made many improvements during the ten years they lived there, but after the death of his wife in 1903, he made his home in different parts of the county, some of the time in Nevada.
On October 30, 1904, John was married to May Arnold of Montevallo and they had four children. The two girls, Alma, 25 years old, and Edith, 23 years old, died just four months apart. Alma in a plane wreck in December of 1931, and Edith of pneumonia in April of 1932.
