Notes for Elizabeth Taylor (Madison)?: Here is the best case I can put together that Elizabeth Taylor (or perhaps Madison) is the wife of the John Penn who died in Caroline Co., VA in 1741. James Taylor, Sr., (1610-1698) had a daughter, Elizabeth, born 1/12/1684/85. There is no documented history on her. Elizabeth's sister, Mary Bishop Taylor married Henry Pendleton. Henry Pendleton, son of Philip Pendleton, Sr., had a sister Isabella Pendleton who married Richard Thomas. James Taylor, Sr., had a son, James Taylor, Jr., (1674-1729) who had a daughter, Frances Taylor (1702-1761) who married Ambrose Madison (1704-1732). The Ambrose Madison bible contains the birth/baptism record of the their three children: (1) James, born 3/27/1723, baptized 4/21/1723 with Godfathers Thomas Madison & James Taylor, Godmothers Martha Taylor & Elizabeth Penn; (2) Elizabeth Madison, born 6/14/1725, baptized 7/3/1725, Godfathers James Taylor & Richard Thomas, Godmothers Martha Taylor and Elinor Madison; (3) Frances Madison, born 3/6/1726, bapized 4/9/1726, Godfathers James Pendleton, Godmothers Isbell Pendleton & Elizabeth Penn. This Elizabeth Penn is probably the wife of John Penn who died in 1741 in Caroline Co., VA. She is probably a Taylor or Madison. There is no record of an Elizabeth Madison of the right age to be the wife of John Penn who died in 1741. There is the above-mentioned Elizabeth Taylor who was of the right age to be the wife of John Penn who died in 1741. Yes Robert, that's basically correct. I've gotten more information from the Taylor side to help with this, although the primary sources are not in complete agreement.
My error in original post was in assuming that the name "James" pertained to one line. It did not.
Your James II actually had three wives and the last was Mary Gregory. I have him being born 1670. I'm not sure about his son James' birthday. But he also had a son named Edmund born to Mary in 1690 (one source say '94, but I doubt this because of his son's age below). Edmund's son by unknown wife was James born in 1710 who married Eleanor Smith. There son David is my ancestor.
My speculation was that Edmund's full-sister Elizabeth married John Penn (father of George and Moses among others). That was based on your earlier post. However, further research has led me to doubt this. Elizabeth and Edmund also had an older half-sister named Elizabeth by one of their father's previous wives. That Elizabeth was born in the 1680s as, I believe, you indicated. BUT she died before reaching maturity and could not have become Elizabeth Penn. Because of the problems with the dates, I'm now convinced that Elizabeth Taylor could not have been Elizabeth Penn. That leaves Elizabeth Madison as the best candidate.
