This work in progress was compiled by my mom, Emelda Oakes Hand, for her mom, Alice Grace d'Amours. Alice was born 1903 in Riviere du Loup, Quebec, Canada and moved to New York a few years after whe married Jesse Joseph Oakes. Alice often spoke of the d'Amours connection to Charlemagne and when my mom, Emelda, found the connection, her one desire was for Alice to know that she was right. My mom was very excited and somewhat surprised to find the d'Amours connection to nobility, but to those who knew both of these fine women, it comes as no surprise. Both Alice and Emelda were noble in the true sense of the word. They worked and smiled through the toughest of times. They gave so much of themselves to treasure we feel that they will never really be gone from our lives.
