John Franklin Pennington was an ostrich feather merchant possibly born round 1840, somewhere in the UK ... he married an Irish woman called Sarah Phoebe Theresa Green (who converted to protestanism for John). They had 15 children, but only 4 made it to adulthood. One of those was my great grandfather, Arthur John Pennington, born 24 November 1864, somewhere in London.
As you can see, these vague birth places have posed a 'brick wall' when it comes to finding more information on John Franklin Pennington.

Arthur John Pennington married a Dora Emma Wildsmith on 18 August 1886 in Timaru, New Zealand. They later had a son, Arthur John Franklin Pennington who was born in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia, on 28 April, 1889.

If anyone might have a Pennington connection to my missing great great grandfather I would certainly like to hear from them. I'm intrigued that he was an ostrich feather merchant. Family rumour has him connected with an ostrich farm in South Africa. If anyone knows if it is possible to find out who was dealing in ostrich feathers in the 1800s that might help ...
