Ancestors of Barbara Ann Engel
Please consider these pages to be exactly what they are, a work in progress. Some data has been taken from web pages without independant verification. Please use it as a guide if we have common ancestors. I am posting my notes along with the genealogy report. My notes are disorganized at present, so bear with me.Many ancestors were here before the Revolution. Family names include; Stanbery (various spellings), Chatfield, Higginson, Campbell, Wood, Wilhelm, Tingley, Morse (Morss), Strickland, Eaton, Mitchell, Stout, Fenwick, Gransden , Shepard, Diver, Chamberland, Overacker and Stover. Many are from the early days of Southampton and Elizabethtown. DAR Patriots are Recompence Stanbery, Samuel Stanbury, Joseph Mackey and McDonald Campbell. Andrew Diver was a Loyalist and served time in prison for his beliefs. The Wood lineage from Jonas Wood (died 1747) in Elizabeth, NJ, back to Jonas Wood Halifax of Long Island is believed to be correct, not verified. As anyone who has tried to trace a Jonas Wood in the early days of Long Island knows that there were three of them in the same places at the same time. Jonas Wood Halifax, Jonas Wood Oram and a Jonas Jr. It has been shown that the Halifax line and Oram line although both coming from Halifax in England were not related. As to the linage of the Diver Family, I have been able to get back only to 1758, a militia listing that might be Andrew Diver. The marriage of John Diver (Johny Divou) in Monroe, MI, shows he married a Nancy Ann Chamberland. As to her parents I believe that she was the daughter of John's half aunt, Eve Diver and Louis Chamberland. In census records it shows that Nancy Ann was born in MI. They are the only Chamberlands (other spellings checked) in the area at the time of her birth. Needless to say it remains to be proven and is only an assumption at this time. Please feel free to contact me reference anything you might find. Happy Hunting! | Ancestors of Barbara Ann Engel Updated August 5, 2010 |
