The First Grosse in my family line was Johan G Grosse (a master sailmaker) who sailed on a trading ship from Amsterdam to Melaka on the VOC Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie) ship "Holland" in 1782, after having come earlier to Melaka to marry. The ship is presumed to be of a similar class to the Batavia, of which a replica can now be found in Sydney.
