EURASIAN (SERANI) FAMILY TREES

My interest is in family history and genealogy of Eurasians with links to various communities along the Straits of Malacca that have their origins dating back to the time of the Portuguese era after 1511. I would like to contact anyone ("Seranis" with origins from either Singapore, Malacca or the region) who would have similar interest. As a disclaimer, I must state that I am only an amateur at this.

I must put on record my sincere gratitute to Mr Herman Oomen, who has been transcribing various church records and posting them to me, ever so regularly.

Some family data

Gregario Maximillian Pereira is my paternal g-g-grandfather; Johan G. Grosse my maternal g-g-g-g-grandfather. While Miguel Theseira is my paternal grandmother's grandfather, and Isidoro De Souza my maternal grandmother's grand-father. They all have origins either from Malacca, Penang or Singapore. On my Pereira tree, a link to a De Rozario family has been found.

On my maternal side, our Grosse ancestors were Germans and links to a Grosse-Wieneke family (circa 1740s), living in Amsterdam. Johan G Grosse, was apparently a master Sailmaker, and came to this part of the world on the VOC ship, "Holland" which sailed from Amsterdam.

On my dad's maternal side(thanks to Auntie June Carvalho, nee Theseira), I have found a link between our the Theseira line to another Pereira family. Regina Pereira, the wife of Miguel Theseira, had at least 7 siblings (the ones Aunty June named were Maria "Baya", Wilhelmina, Juanna, "Mandok", Domingos married Martha Fernandes, "Coek" and Lizarda, who married Joseph Carvalho). From records in St Joseph's Chruch, Regina's parents were identified as Albertus Pereira and Ignatina Nonis (aka. Mai). This other Pereira tree is really really big. If you wish to know more, please contact me.

On my mum's maternal side, the De Souzas, her grand-father, Samuel Rudolph De Souza married Epifania Bilbinia Constance Conceicao. She was the daugther of Cipriano Da Conceicao and Clementina Desker, paternal grand-daughter of Anastacio Da Conceicao and Maria Da Cruz, also of Malacca (married, circa 1820s) and materanal grand-daughter of Filipe Desker and Miguelina Sekelches, of Malacca. Samuel R. de Souza was the son of Isidoro and Catherina De Souza. Isidoro's grand-father might have come on the ship Maria Louisa from Portugual to Malakka between 1750-1770. I'm still hoping for more information to confirm this. Isidore was the youngest son of Dr Manuel Francisco De Souza. (see below - picture of gravestone)
