Charles Edward Slocum Davis (son of William Joseph Slocum and Orpha S Reynolds) was born June 22, 1903 in Gravesend, New York, and died July 31, 1954 in Van Nuys, California. He married (1) Wilma Shaw. He married (2) Olive Hanna Warren on July 15, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of Albert Emory Warren and Mary Delight Cook.

Born in a stable at a horse race track. Father was a jockey.

Charles ran away from home as a youngster, and was taken in by Homer Davis of Indiana, after which Charles became known as Charles Edward Davis.

Charles appeared before Joseph A. Murphy, Judge of Probate, at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan on February 23, 1937 to officially change his name from Charles Edward Slocum to Charles Edward Davis. This petition was granted. Probate order #236,710

Charles was an alcoholic, and was one of the early founders of Alcoholics Anonymous in Ohio and Michigan in the 1930s.
