DOWDY - LEACHMAN - HARRIS - SANDERS - SMITH
This family begins with George K. DOWDY, who was born abt 1772 in North Carolina. He moved to Kentucky abt 1810 then to Tennessee by 1814. Before his death, George K. and his sons bought and sold large pieces of property in Hickman and Fulton Cos., KY, Obion and Lake Cos., TN and New Madrid, Stoddard Cos., MO. this included islands in the Mississippi. By 1840 George K. is in Stoddard Co., MO. He died there in 1852. Now working on connections in North Carolina.
Lewis DOWDY, b. 1821 TN, eighth child of George K., lived in Hickman Co., KY and married Elizabeth Ann LEACHMAN, in 1845. They had land which was on the borders of Hickman/Fulton Co., KY and Obion Co., TN. Lewis was on the 1850 Census in both Fulton Co., KY and Obion Co., TN. They had 3 children.
I have now found Lewis & Elizabeth along with additional children in the 1860 census in Wright Co., MO. Their oldest daughter Martha S. Dowdy married Henry C. Harris in Stoddard Co., MO and are the parents of James H., George Robert and Margaret E. Harris.
Margaret Elizabeth HARRIS, called Betty, married Henry Franklin
SANDERS, 16 Aug 1894. they lived on a farm in Frisco, Stoddard Co., MO. They lived on a piece of land that Betty HARRIS inherited from Lewis Dowdy. She willed it to her children, so her husband, much to his dismay, never had control of it. The Sanders farm was not sold until 1967. After Betty's death the big farm house was considered haunted even though Henry SANDERS lived there for many years afterward.
Henry Franklin SANDERS was the son of Jacob SANDERS and Parlee SMITH. Jacob SANDERS, b. 1840 immigrated here from Bavaria, Germany. It is believed he lived in Illinois, where he married and had son Joseph in 1864. Abt 1869 he married Parlee SMITH, b. 1851 TN, her father was from Germany and mother from TN. They had five children.
Edna Viola SANDERS, b. 1907, md. Leo BREECE and lived on the Sanders farm in Stoddard Co., MO until her death in 1967. She had 9 children.
