b: 24 JUN 1715 in Westerly, Rhode Island
James and his brother Hope Covey protested the division of Westerly into two towns, Westerly and Charlestown, saying that the area was too poor to pay the cost of two towns, The moved to Sonington, Connecticut which was a short distance away, but maintained association with the First Sabbatarian Church in Westerly.
Another report shows the place of death as Washington County, Virginia.
James Covey Jr and Mary Lanphere were double first cousins.
James fought in the French and Indian War particularly in the Great Swamp Campaign of 1761. For his service he was entitled to Bounty Land in New York. James' early lot assignment was in the Philipse Division, Lot 49 of Dutchess County. The date of the lot chart is May 2, 1781.
