Notes for CARLO DOMENICO PERSEGHIN:
Gaetano and Dominic were the first to migrate to America, settling near Burgaw, N.C.
Both men were skilled craftsman, having been apprenticed to Austrian and German masons in Stutgart, Germany. Their big break in North Carolina came when the saw broke at the lumber mill in Burgaw, N.C. and Gaetano was able to fix it.
After several years, Napoleon and Adele also migrated to Burgaw, followed several years later by Virgilio, Imbania, Lawrence and Jiovanni.
The three older brothers worked at times with a construction company run by Frank and Luigi Deluca that had been contracted to build roads throughout the South. While working with the crew near Baltimore, Dominic decided to settle in Dundalk, Md. A bricklayer by trade, he built houses with the Delucas and soon convinced his father to come north as well.
Dominic was an agressive risk taker whose business schemes often went awry. His money problems were compounded by a lifelong gambling addiction. After several failed projects, including a joint farming venture with his brother Napoleon, Dominic was so debt ridden that he began to go by his middle name Carlo.
Like his father and brothers, he raised his family and lived out his life in Dundlak, Md.
