      2. Alonza2 Penn (Jessie Tobe1) was born in Virginia, and died in Virginia. He married Fanny D. Parker December 18, 1878 in BEDFORD,va, daughter of Booker Parker and Charity Parker.

Notes for Alonza Penn:
Alonzo's deceandants, numbering over 175, now owns the land that the original cabin stands on. The chimney stones can still be seen and the outline of the foundation is visible.Located off of State Route #43 near the Creasey one room schoolhouse. The land was deeded to the slaves of Minnie Creasey and her husband.
Alonza Penn owned several parcels of land which he sold for unknowned reasons. The first deed of ownership found was dated October 4,1912.It reads as follows:
that in consideration of the sum of $49.50 cash in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the said Fannie Penn and Alonza Penn, her husband, parties of the first part, do grant and convey unto the said Howard Thomas, party of the second part, with general warranty, all that certain lot or parcel of land on the Bedford and Leesville Road, about 10 miles from Bedford City, in Bedford County, Virginia, containing five acres, bounded and described as follows: -
Beginning at a large white oak in Turners line on a small branch as at 1 on the above plot, thence with Turners line S,77 W, 26po, to a stake cor, to school house lot, thence with lines of same S.23 E. 1 po to stake S.521/2 W, 5,20 po, to a hickory on side of road and cor.to school house lot, thence with road S,81/2 N,2,28 po. to a small black oak, thence leaving road a new line S,561/4 E.34 po. to a stone new corner, thence new lines continued N44 1/4 E 26.8 po. to a new corner at a spring in branch, thence up branch N.56 1/4 W. 21.4 po. to the first station, containing 5 acres. this same land is now owned by Landon Penn!

In February 17,1917 there was a need for Alonza and his children, Warner, Jessie, johnson, Minnie,and Ellen to enter into a deed of trust with William Eubanks and Peoples Bank of Bedford City, assigning approximately 93 acres of land for $125.00!!
Another deed of trust dates March 27,1926 Alonza Penn, Fannie had since passed... 5 acres of land on Leesville Road for payment of $480.00 from Huffman Penn, he was the son of Purnea Penn Alonza's daughter.
In total we are talking about over one hundred acres of land that belonged to Alonza & Fannie Penn!
            Grandpa Alonza was always taking short trips around town in his buggy with his Grandchildren and his favorite horse named John Henry. One day he loaded down the buggy with his grandkids and went for a ride into town. The children were all excited about going into town and as such they were all pointing out items of interest along the way. Once they reached the little town of Bedford the children all notice something new! Someone had added a stoplight in the middle of town! When he reached the stoplight the children all shouted "Grandpa look at the red light!" Grandpa responded,"Can't you see I'm driving this buggy, I have no time to watch lights!" So though the light they went!

  9 v.   Nona Penn.
  10 vi.   Ellen Penn, born in VA1. She married Howard Thomas.
+ 11 vii.   Warner Penn.
+ 12 viii.   Jessie Penn.


      3. Lafayette Fate2 Penn (Jessie Tobe1). He married Laura Calloway December 26, 1871 in bedford, Virginia, daughter of John Calloway and Patsy.

Notes for Lafayette Fate Penn:
Fate left Bedford after having a misunderstanding with a white neighbor. Knowing that he could not be safe he fled to Lynchburg. It was said that he changed his name to Pinn,but after further investigation we have found that he used his given name of Lafayette.
      According to the Bedford County marriage records Reel#34-838
lafayette (fate) Penn married Laura Calloway December 26,1871.

      Wife's parents : John and Patsy Calloway
The ceremony was performed by P.C. White.


      Children of Lafayette Penn and Laura Calloway are:
  13 i.   William3 Penn, born April 23, 1886.

      Birth index book, Bedford County Courthouse, Virginia 1867-1897 states:
      1880 Ellen Free Girl November 1883 to Lafayette & Laura Penn.


  15 iii.   Jessie Penn. He married Carrie Calloway July 05, 1899 in bedford, Virginia.

      4. Robert2 L.Penn (Jessie Tobe1 Penn). He married Lucy Tanner December 04, 1889 in bedford, Virginia, daughter of Joel Tanner and Rhonda.
