Notes for Mary Bowman: One warm summer evening Grandpa was the designated caretaker for his son, Warner's children;Mattie, Mary, Robert and Elizabeth. He had a special interest in having the grandchildren stick to his curfew, especialy the girls! he always waited for them with a long switch, which was usually reserved for the oldest two... Mary and Mattie. On this particular night while he waited, our Grandparents (Johnson & Mary ) went- a - calling. When Grandpa Alonza heard a noise he called out "Mary is that you?"( our Grandma Mary ) answered "yes", and Grandpa Alonza came out from behind the bush with a long switch and was about to use it when (Grandpa) Johnson said " This is my Mary, Pa!" Grandpa Alonza admonished him by saying you must speak up son, my switch is ready, dog foot! (His favorite saying was dog foot!)
