Notes for Anders Christen Petersen: Obituary: Morgan Messenger, January 1926: Sudden Death of A.C. Petersen, Saturday, Brookville Man's Death Comes Unexpected by Family and Friends, Heart Cause, Shock is Fatal to Brother Otto Petersen of Lamberton, Expires as he Prepared to Leave in Response to Death Message Andrew Christian Petersen well known as Chris Petersen of Brookville township, passed to the Great Beyond Saturday evening about 6 o'clock. His demise came unexpected to family and friends and his death was a great shock to his wide circle of friends and his acquaintences. He returned to his home eight miles south of Morgan last Saturday afternoon from an automobile trip to Sleepy Eye and complained of feeling ill, suffering from pains in his chest. He immediately went to bed and passed away while his wife was ready to administer remedies to relieve his pain. He appeared to be in good health to his friends and they could hardly believe the news of his sudden death. It is learned that he complained lately about some rheumatic pains. He was 47 years old and leaves a widow and seven children. The death was made still more tragic through the death of his brother Otto Petersen of Lamberton to whom the shock was fatal. In response to the death message from Morgan, Sunday morning Otto was preparing to leave in his car for the home of his dead brother and when he went out he collapsed and died in a short time. It is said that he had been treated for a heart affliction. Mr. Petersen was only a few years older than his brother Chris and leaves a wife and nine children. The sad and sudden death of these brothers had a profound effect on all those who made their acquaitances. The funeral of Andrew Christian Petersen Tuesday afternoon was one of the largest funerals ever conducted here. Short services were held from the home followed by services in the Danish Lutheran Church in Brookville. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Rev. Sherman Bono had charge of the services. K.M. Jensen and son of Morgan were funeral directors. This great outpouring of friends and acquaintances was a manifestation of the sympathy felt for the bereaved ones. Andrew Christian Petersen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark August 24, 1879 making him 47 years and five months old. He immigrated to the United States 29 years ago and came to Brookville. He lived in the neighborhood of Morgan and Evan. Twenty-three years ago he was united in marriage to Johanna Hansen. The family lived the community most of the time except for a year spent at Barnum followed by a residence at Lamberton. Six or seven years ago the family moved back here and located on the farm of Mr. N.C. Hansen a mile west of the Brookville Creamery site. Besides the grief stricken widow there are 7 children, 5 girls and 2 boys, Dorothy, Ester, Katherine, Alice, Margaret, Owen, and Roy. The funeral of Otto Petersen was held at Lamberton Wednesday afternoon. The bereaved widow is well known here, her maiden name being Christina Johannsen, daughter of Mrs. Jens Johannsen formerly of Brookville but more recently of Sleepy Eye. A brother Hans Johannsen resides south of Morgan. A brother of the deceased Petersens died very suddenly last August in Denmark. Signs his name on his petition for naturalization as "Christian Petersen". His brother Otto is witness "Otto Vehen Petersen" |

Notes for Johanne Maria Johansdatter: Obituary: Fergus Falls Newspaper First Break in Home Circle in 56 Years, Mrs. J.C. Knoff, Wife of Fergus Falls' Oldest Merchant is Called, Beautiful Life Comes to Close - Resided Here Since 1881 Fergus Falls lost one of its finest women today in the death of Mrs. J.C. Knoff, which occurred at her home on Union avenue north at 1 o'clock this morning. Her health has been failing for some time and she has been quite seriously ill since a few days before Christmas. Mrs. Knoff was born at Oslo, Norway, Sept. 6, 1856, and dies at the age of 77 years. She came to the United States in 1862, locating with her parents at Esterville, IA, where they engaged in farming. She was married to Mr. Knoff December 27, 1877 at Mankato, MN and came to Fergus Falls in 1881. Last Thursday was the 56th wedding anniversary of their wedding. She is survived by her husband and family of six children, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. I.S. Catlin of Arthur, ND, Mrs. Ernest E. Anderson of Dickinson, ND, and Mrs. Jack Peterson, Mrs. Henry G. Dahl, and George W. Knoff, and John A. Knoff of Fergus Falls. She also leaves two brothers Anton Johnson of Jackson, MN and Hans C. Johnson of Lamberton, MN. Mrs. Knoff was a kind and devoted mother and her death is the first break in a beautiful family circle in 56 years - a family circle that ranges in age from two years to eighty. She lived for her home, for her children and grandchildren and they in turn almost worshipped her. She was a woman of lovely character and one who will be sadly missed in the community where she has made her home for more than an average lifetime. Mr. Knoff is the oldest merchant in Fergus Falls, having been continuously in business here for more than 52 years and the members of the family have long been prominent in the civic and business affairs of the community. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, which she and Mr. Knoff helped to establish here and was very active in church work upt to a few years ago. The funeral will take place at two o'clock Saturday afternoon from the First English Lutheran Church, the services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Tallakson. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. |
