Iowa Falls Sentinel Newspaper, April 25, 1883: On Friday last, Uncle Daniel Williams, one of the oldest settlers of Hardin county, came into our office for a chat with the editor. The poor old man, now about 75 years old, recently laid his faithful wife away in the grave. He informed us that he was married in 1828 and had lived with her for 55 years. He came with his wife to Hardin county in 1852, and has lived here ever since. Mrs. Williams was 75 years old last December, and was a good and devoted mother and a good neighbor. Although she had not attended any religious services for years, yet at the last she was happy, content, hopeful and willing to go, with perfect faith in Jesus Christ as her Saviour. Poor old Uncle Dan, how we pitied him as the tears streamed down his withered cheeks, to hear him speak in praise of his good, old wife, and hope that he might join her soon. Ah, love never grows old, and at the meeting over there, years nor space will destroy it, nor the joy that will come to reunited hearts, where God shall wipe away all tears.

Stories told by Guy Williams to Dan Peterson (Guy was a great grandson of Daniel Williams): Dan Williams hued logs and helped Jacob Kidwiler build a dam. Dan took 25 horses to Chicago to sell as he wanted to buy a piece of timber land and the prairie was unlucky. He stopped on his way home at an old farmhouse for the evening. He heard a scream like a baby, running out he hopped on his horse. The noise seemed to follow him. His horse reared up and bucked him off. He would run then walk for about a mile until his horse came back. Dan was a large man with light blue eyes and black hair. He always carried a rifle. His wife Allie was supposed to be a very small woman. Bill Simpson, Dan's son-in-law used to tease him he was ugly. Family legend also has it that one of Dan's children fell down a hill, hit his head and died of brain tumor. This could be Isaac or David who is found on the census but nothing else known of them. According to Guy, Dan was a rather mean man. He would pick up a calf and throw it over the fence. It is also said he had a girlfriend who he had a baby with. His religion was that everyone was free and equal.

State of Indiana, Montgomery County Application for Marriage: 11-10-1847: Daniel Williams is a witness for the marriage of John Hardee and Elizabeth Harrison. He signs his name.

Iowa Falls Sentinel Newspaper 12-5-1883:
The news reached us to late for insertion last week, of the death of Uncle Daniel Williams. "Uncle Dan" as we called him, was an old settler of Hardin Township. He was well known over the county, as an inoffensive and honest man. Not many months since, death took from his side his aged wife, and he told not long since as he sat in a chair in our office, that it was his last visit on this side. He suffered greatly, during the last few weeks of his life, and hailed death as a grateful boon. We drop a tear to the memory of "Uncle Dan."

Mrs. John Simpson died at her residence near town on Tuesday of last week and was buried from the Baptist church on Wednesday. Rev. Carpenter preached the funeral sermon. Mrs. Simpson was a woman of many noble traits, the idol of her family of boys and their loss was hard to bear. She was one of those noble souls who get to heaven through great tribulation and trial, but their rest is sweeter at the end.
