Hello! I am researching my paternal great-grandparents' surnames of SCHMIDT/SMITH, and GRIESHEIMER who immigrated from Germany and lived in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. Philip Schmidt and his brother Wilhelm arrived from Ramsen, Germany on May 19, 1854, aboard the ship "Progress." OTTILIE GRIESHEIMER was born Feb.13, 1837 in Lampertheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, and died August 15, 1917 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. She was the daughter of PETER GRIESHEIMER and ANNA MARGARETHA GRIESHEIMER. She married PHILIPP SCHMIDT December 20, 1855 in Ross County, Ohio. Philipp was born April 12,1834 in Ramsen, Germany, and died March 9, 1909 in Chillicothe. Philipp and Ottilie were the parents of 13 children.
My paternal family surnames are PIERROT, WILHELM and KLEINBECK from the German-French border, the Alsace Lorraine.
The 21 year old twin PIERROT brothers, Anton & Joseph, immigrated September 10,1872 from the Havre on the ship "Denmark". The "Denmark" sailed to London before arriving in New York. On 31 May 1877 their brother, Theodore, a chef trained at the Sorbonne University immigrated. The three brothers lived together with the young Wilhelms in Cincinnati before Theodore moved to Chicago to continue his career and marry. Joseph and family continued to live in Cincinnati, but Anton moved his family at the turn of the century to Dayton, Ohio.
My maternal surnames are TERLINDE, GOLDITZ, KOCH/COOK, BROWN,and NORTH. I'm currently researching the Terlinde family when they lived in the city of Essen, Westphalia, Germany. One of my brick walls is finding the name of the sister or sisters who immigrated to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and built a large furniture factory there. It's possible that this is the Charles and Mary Nagle family of Pittsburg.
*Wilhelm Herman Terlinde immigrated 15 July 1892 from Essen, in Westphalia, Germany, his city of birth. He arrived at the Port of Baltimore onboard the steamship "Dresden". The manifest reports that he carried $5 of currency and his destination was Pennsylvania. This was Wilhelm's third trip to America where his sister had opened a furniture store in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. I'm working to find her name now. *George North immigrated from England in 1733, then moved from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Columbia, Georgia about 1760, then moved on to Miami County, Ohio in 1805. *Philip Schmidt immigrated on 19 May 1854 from Rhein-Pfalz, Ramsen, Germany (Bavaria). He and his brother William appear on the list of all passengers taken on board the ship "Progress"- John Chase was Master, from Liverpool to the port of New York. *Peter Griesheimer departed from Antwerp, Belgium and arrived at the port of New York on the ship "Ontario" from Lampertheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany on 21 September 1847. *Claus Heinrich Koch and Barbara E. Koch/Cook immigrated from Bremen, Germany, on July 3, 1868, sailing on the ship "Republik". Claus and Barbara reported to the village of Immichenhain to obtain permission to emigrate. The emigration roster reports three daughters sailing with their parents, but it appears that 12 year old Anna Elisabeth died at least a week before the ship "Atlantis" sailed on 10 May 1868, so Claus and Barbara, Anna Maria (Mary) and Anna Elizabeth (Lizzie) delayed the trip for one week to sail aboard the "Republic" on 17 May 1868. *Anton Pierrot and his twin brother Joseph, immigrated from Krautwiller, Brumath, Bas-Rhin, (Alsace Lorraine) France in 1872 from the Have on the Ship, "Denmark". Joseph Wilhelm, born 1811, immigrated from Alsace Lorraine. His wife Magdalana Kleinbeck, born 1819, also immigrated from the French-German borders. She departed the port of LeHave, France, aboard the ship "Damascus" on 30 April 1846. She made a stop in Falmouth, England, and resumed the voyage to the Port of New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 8. The trip took almost 2 months.
My genealogy is for pleasure and to aid in research only. The information is from vari
