Ruth Colyer Burgess of Newburgh, New YorkUpdated August 28, 2002 | |
| In the past few months, I have learned about and been in contact with several new cousins I never knew existed, plus I learned of the existence of a half-brother I knew nothing about. I also have information that implies I might also have a half sister named Marjorie Ann Burgess who would have been born about 1956. This has made me more determined than ever to learn as much as I possibly can. On my father's side, names in our history include Burgess, Winston, Jordan, and Hornbuckle. Information I have places many of my ancestors in the Blue Earth Lake, Minnesota area, as well as Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and eastern Canada. Some of the names I've encountered thus far in my search on my mother's side include: Montras (France, 1660), Davids, Harmse, Montross, Lent, Thorp(e) (Tharp), Sarvis, and Eager. Much of what I've learned places the majority of my ancestors on her side in New York. There apparently is quite a mystery surrounding the parentage of Marguerite Davids who married Pierre Montras in either 1674 or 1688. I would love to talk to anyone who might shed light on this particular mystery. I would love to hear from anyone who might have a connection to any of the family lines mentioned above. I will be happy to share any information I've uncovered that might be missing from someone else's family history. Several of my "newly found" cousins have very generously shared the information they have researched and I can't begin to tell them how much I appreciate their hard work. |
