The Phaneuf family descended from England, originally of the Farnsworth family. In 1628, Matthias Farnsworth left England for the "New World" and landed in Boston, Mass. About 1635, he settled in Groton, Mass. In 1676/77, Claude Mathias Farnsworth was captured by Mohawk Indians and brought to Canada. The Farnsworth name eventually became "Phaneuf" and the family travelled south into New England to secure its future in America. Our branches have spread far and wide, and now we must find our roots. Some of our relatives include the Cote' family, the Blain family, the Dragon family, the Provost family, and the Belanger family. Any information you have and would like to share will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and enjoy my page. |
