Ambrose Phelps of Caswell Co, NC , Grandson of James Phelps

Updated March 13, 2008

REVISED 1/2008: NOTE THE NEW DNA INFORMATION, the table of early Phelps in Caswell Co, NC, and the large PDF detailed report of this line. Also the Cherokee Indian application article is now in PDF format with photos (copyrighted 2008).

First of all, this site is NOT about the Ambrose Phelps who moved from Caswell County to Pulaski Co., KY around 1800. Nor is it about a reported son of that Ambrose, Ambrose Jr. who I discovered actually never existed. This site is about another Ambrose Phelps of Caswell Co., NC who was born in 1805, died in 1850, whose father was Thomas Phelps whose father was James Phelps d1786, Caswell Co. Descendants of each are described, but an emphasis is on Thomas and his son, Jacob Phelps.

A large PDF documented report about my line of descendants of James is available as a download at http://pages.suddenlink.net/phelpsdna/JamesPhelps/index.htm It includes a description of the two Thomas Phelps who lived in early Caswell at the same time. Also included is detail about the descendants who moved to Winston-Salem in the late 1800s.

If you notice any errors or can contribute to the family records, please contact me.
