2. Mark Latham Phelps, Snow Camp, NC, descendant of Thomas H Phelps, The consensus of most of the research I have seen out there (which is a lot) is that James' birthdate is between 1735-1740.
3. Further study of the Albemarle source indicates the James Phelps of that location moved to Georgia and outlive our James.
4. James' eldest son was William (b.1754- d.1824) so James was b. bet. 1729-1736 assuming James was 20-25 years old or more at Williams birth.

6. A number of internet sources state that James married a Mary BATEMAN, many stating from Perquimans, NC. There is no evidence of this.
7. Mary C. Bateman has been traditionally given as the name, yet the Mary Bateman of Perquimans who may have married a James Phelps of Perquimans was not our Mary - because James Phelps of Perquimans died an early death (See PERQUIMANS DEED BOOK F;278 on microfilm only). There is no other evidence of a Mary Bateman.

Weenonah sent me notes and a family chart back in the 70's that went back to WILLIAM PHELPS(ca1714-1749) that was married to ANNA NANCY BABER they being the grandparents of our THOMAS PHELPS(ca1768-ca1849). Now whether she found this information through documents somewhere or from the memory of her father I do not know.That is as well as I can do on proof . Unfortunately Weenonah passed away in 1980. A talk with her husbands relatives in Texas revealed that her husband had sold their home and had discarded or destroyed all of Weenonah's notes and research.

However per info I previously sent you "John Felps" is named in Nathaniel Pass Sr.'s will of 1811 as his grandson and we know Nathaniel Pass Sr. was Mary B Pass's father. This is from the will of Nathaniel Pass Sr. He names a grandson John Felps. I saw a message board on the net the other night that said Mary Pass was Thomas Phelps 2nd wife and they had a son John which would make him a grandson of Nathaniel Pass Sr. as he was Mary Pass' father , his will is dated Jan. 12th 1811. " .
