Edward T. Gardner (son of Joseph Gardner and Jane Thompson) was born July 24, 1842 in Columbus, Ohio, and died April 30, 1915. He married Melvina Walters on 1863.

EDWARD GARDNER SUMMONED

Well known Elderly Resident Passes Away Last Friday

Edward T. Gardner who had been ailing for several months with heart trouble, passed away last Friday mornng at 7:25 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. McMurphy, where he had been confined in his bed for the previous wee,k or more. His age was 72 years, 9 months and 6 days.
The funeral service took place on Sunday afternoon at Rucker Chapel and burial was in the cemetry adjacnet to the church. Rev. Thos. H. Tull conducted the service, which was attended by a large number of friends residing in that neighborhood as well as from the city, not-withstanding the heavy rain which set in at noon. The following members of the Kenialworth Lodge K. of P. [Knights of Pithias], with which deceased was affiliated were the pall-bearers: H. L. Williams, A. R. Williams, W. L. Weedman, George Winsor, Walter Reeser and R. J. Rock.
Mr. Gardner was born in Columbus, Ohio, July 24, 1842, He was one of a family of six boys, all of whom preceded him in death except one, Charles Gardner of East St. Louis. He came to Illinois about 1858, settling in Wilson township near Rucker Chapel, and from that time remained a resident of DeWitt county.
In 1863 he was married to Miss Melvina Walters, who died about thirty years ago. Of recent years he lived in Farmer City principally and was much in demand because of his knowledge of and experience with engines and different kinds of machinery.
Mr. Gardner is survived by the following children: J. F. Gardner, Mrs. McMurphy, Mrs. Jas. Reynolds and Mrs. Chas. Milton, all of Farmer City and vicinity; Joseph of Weldon, Mrs. Calvin Glardon of near Bellflower and Mrs. Grace B. Harrold of Birkbeck; also twenty-six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
